Trainee Patent Attorneys

VACANCIES – STARTING AUTUMN 2010

We have three vacancies for graduates/trainee patent attorneys in the following teams:

1. an Electronic/Electrical Engineering graduate for our Bristol office. Applicants for this role should have a good first degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline;

2. an Electronic/Electrical Engineering graduate for our Munich office. Applicants for this role need a good first degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline. They should also be a German speaker and have 1-2 years post graduate experience in Intellectual Property; and

3. a Chemistry/Life Sciences graduate in our Bristol office. Applicants for this role should have a good first degree in Chemistry (with biological science knowledge) or a related discipline.

What we can offer you:
Starting salaries for all graduate trainee positions will be circa £26k plus benefits (the pay scale rises rapidly during training and will exceed £60k on qualifying). In addition, we can offer you a relaxed and friendly working environment in modern city centre offices. We have a fully structured programme of training and support to help you pass the UK and European qualifying examinations.

Why we need you:
You are highly motivated and have good interpersonal skills. You have a very sound knowledge of your discipline and possess a willingness to learn. Because we demand the best employees our interviews are designed to challenge your technical, communicative and written skills – only the best candidates will pass through to the second interview stage. Training to become a patent attorney requires the ability to combine legal knowledge with your scientific or technical discipline.

What skills you should possess:
You must have the ability to advise clients (from those with basic through to expert levels of IP know-how), in a clear and concise manner – logical thinking and written explanations are essential. You must have the aptitude to grasp new technologies and ideas quickly. Any commercial knowledge or experience would be advantageous, as would foreign language skills.
