"My favourite invention is the gas turbine. Despite being first patented by John Barber in 1791, it wasn't until 1903 that Ægidius Elling, was able to build the first working example. Since these humble beginnings, gas turbines have revolutionised the power and aviation industries thanks to their impressive power density, reliability and efficiency. The world quite simply would not be the same without them. "
Andrew joined Haseltine Lake in 2005 and qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2009. Andrew was awarded the Moss Prize in 2007 for achieving the highest marks in the patents papers of the UK Patent foundation examinations.
During his PhD, Andrew studied the effects of water injection on gas turbine compressors and was sponsored by Rolls-Royce. Andrew was also sponsored by ICI during his undergraduate degree. As a result Andrew has a wide range of industrial experience and has also acquired two years of accredited training with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Beyond this Andrew has a broad background in Engineering, which covers topics including: aeronautical engineering, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, nuclear engineering, structural engineering, energy and power generation.
Andrew drafts and prosecutes patent applications and advises on both the infringement and validity of patents for a range of clients. These include several large clients in the biomechanical, oil drilling and aerospace sectors. Andrew has also worked with a number of smaller clients helping them to protect their inventions.
