"My favourite invention is the rotary combustion engine by Felix Wankel in the late 1950's. It ingeniously combines the principles of piston combustion engines with those of turbines, while minimizing the number of moving parts. Although presently not widely used, it represents a milestone in the advancement of modern engine design.

Achim joined Haseltine Lake in 2010 to lead the firm’s new branch office in The Hague, (Netherlands) with colleague Michiel Cramwinckel. Achim previously worked as a Patent Portfolio Manager and Patent Attorney at a global energy and petrochemical company since 2002.
As well as experience in patent prosecution and representation in opposition and court proceedings, Achim has considerable experience in managing global IP portfolios for alternative and biomass derived fuels and their production processes. He has advised on collaborative research technology cooperation, negotiated on corporate transactions including mergers and acquisitions, alliance and joint ventures for a range of small, medium and large corporations including venture capitalist organisations.
Achim’s technical specialisms include organic synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, lubricants and fuel technologies, biomass derived fuels, refinery processes and industrial chemical process technology, coatings, polymers and composite materials.
Achim presently serves as Secretary and Board Member for the Licensing Executive Society (LES) Benelux, and is a member of the Dutch patent bar association.
Achim’s first language is German; he is also fluent in English, Dutch and French.
