"My favourite invention is the carving ski. When I first learned to ski it was on traditional skis with straight parallel edges; it was a bruising experience. After a break of a few years I returned to find that skis had been re-invented to their present distinctive “hour-glass” shape with deep side cuts. What a revelation! Now, even I can face the piste without the feeling that my next but one journey will be to the orthopeadic clinic.
