Gemma joined Haseltine Lake in 2003 after graduating from Oxford University, and qualified as a patent attorney in 2007. In 2008 Gemma took a break from practice to enjoy a year of travel and volunteering abroad.
Gemma handles inventions in a range of technical fields including biomechanical and medical devices, automotive components, oil drilling, gas turbine engineering, civil engineering and processing. Gemma works for clients including a multinational orthopaedics corporation, a major UK food and clothing retailer, IP attorney firms from various jurisdictions and start up companies across a range of technical disciplines.
Gemma also has experience of conducting freedom to operate studies, assessing competitor patents with regard to infringement risks and validity, and in matters concerning registered designs and design right.
During her training, Gemma completed a secondment at a multinational orthopaedics corporation in the US, where she gained valuable in house experience.
