Ben joined the patent profession after working in industry, gaining experience of the design and manufacture of both light and heavy electrical equipment. As a patent practitioner he has wide experience of prosecuting patent applications particularly at the European Patent Office (EPO), handling a wide range of mechanical, electrical and electronic inventions. His expertise is based on electrical equipment of all types and its control circuitry, particularly electrical drive systems and numerically controlled machine tools, including related computer and software applications. Telecommunications and drug delivery systems are also specialities.

Ben works mainly for large German and Japanese companies specialising in mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering. He also works on electronic inventions of a major international pharmaceutical company.
