The first commercially available plasma TV was launched in 1998 and this began the trend to move away from bulky, low resolution CRT displays towards large scale, slim, high definition displays which are now found in the majority of homes throughout the UK. "


During his degree in Physics at the University of Sheffield, Matthew developed detailed knowledge in areas including: electronics, semiconductors, organic semiconductors, solid state physics, quantum mechanics, electromagnetism and nuclear and particle physics. His MPhys project involved the investigation of gas sensing using Quantum Cascade Lasers. Matthew also has experience of computer programming using C++.

Matthew joined Haseltine Lake in March 2007 after joining the profession in 2004, becoming a European Patent Attorney in 2009. He has experience working for clients in a number of technical fields, including telecommunications; USB devices; audio codecs, in particular HDA codecs; DC-DC converters, in particular charge pumps; semiconductor devices; biometric authentication systems; plasma and LCD displays; fibre optic acoustic and magnetic field sensing; robot control systems; navigation devices; printing and laminating devices and sports equipment.
