IP Inclusive launches!

We are delighted to announce the launch of IP Inclusive - a pan-professional diversity task force committed to helping make the IP profession more inclusive.

The initiative, which is the result of a round table meeting on Diversity in IP at the beginning of the year, has amassed nearly 40 members from organisations including CIPA, the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA), the IP Federation, the UK association of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI-UK), the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) and Managing IP magazine. 

The group is represented by patent and trade mark attorneys, IP solicitors and barristers, patent and trade mark administrators, information scientists, IP Office examiners and HR professionals from IP practices. 

Haseltine Lake has been involved in the initiative from the outset as increasing diversity in the profession is something we strongly support.

I am proud to be chairing the Best Practice workstream, which includes the development and implementation of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter. This is a voluntary code of practice we are encouraging IP professionals to sign up to. It has been established to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the IP sector.

Organisations signing up to the Charter will require the appointment of a dedicated EDI officer. Through the nationwide network of officers, the task force will distribute updates, information and calls to action in the future. We will also provide organisations with access to supporting materials, for example guidance on best practices and template EDI policies.

By encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion in the Intellectual Property sector we can enable people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to excel in IP whilst strengthening the sector. By opening up opportunities we will enhance the talent pool, and as more diverse and inclusive employers, we will be better able to recruit and retain the people we need to develop and grow our organisations.

The Charter is a public commitment by signatory organisations to adhere to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of employment practice, especially recruitment and retention, career development and workplace ethos.
