Haseltine Lake around the world series 6

29 December 2015

Just like we sing in ‘Deck the Halls’, “Tis is the season to be jolly!”– We have embraced this tradition at Haseltine Lake and had a very festive month!

On the corporate side, Lisa Williams, an Associate at Haseltine Lake, attended ESA-BIC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands, as an expert on the Joint Tender Evaluation Board. The ESA BIC Noordwijk is the place for entrepreneurs to realise their innovative business ideas and transfer technologies from space to other areas of the economy. Whilst there, Lisa was evaluating proposals from companies wishing to enter the business incubation program and making recommendations for the selection of the next companies to be accepted into the program. Lisa also went to the ESA-BIC business breakfast event at Noordwijk at the end of the month.

Earlier in the month, a CIPA go-karting event was held in Bristol, where 11 teams from local patent attorney firms and in-house IP departments took part in a 90 minute endurance race – and of course this was something we wanted to be involved with!

Pat Chapman. Nina Szamocki. Alan Chamberlain. Simon ReesStarting 10th on a randomly-allotted grid, Pat Chapman surged into 2nd place after lap 1 and took the lead on lap 9. By the time Pat handed over to Nina Szamocki, Haseltine Lake were over a lap ahead of the competition. With consistent and quick driving, Nina managed to extend the lead to over 2 laps before handing over to Simon Rees. Despite incurring a 30-second black flag penalty, Simon recorded the team’s fastest lap during his stint to maintain a one-lap lead for the final driver, Alan Chamberlain. Alan drove a steady final leg to hold off the competition and secure the victory – leading to a top of the podium finish for Team HL! Well done all!

Haseltine Lake staff from the Bristol office and other companies from the same building, teamed up this month to raise money for charity, Children’s Hospice South West. Haseltine Lake held a bake sale and encouraged the staff to bring in their baked or bought goods – all in the name of this fantastic charity. Children’s Hospice South West provides hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and offers the children with amazing treatments and opportunities. They also ensure the children’s families are supported throughout the rest of their child’s life. www.chsw.org.uk/home. Nearly £2,000 was raised for the Children’s Hospice South West charity from Haseltine Lake’s bake sale and the other companies involved in the fundraiser.

Finishing the year in true festive fashion, the Bristol office held its annual Christmas raffle, with all money raised going to The Save the Children foundation. As part of the celebrations, the HL team also wore their Christmas jumpers and raised £260 in the raffle.
