100 Days at Haseltine Lake

Daniel Chew joined Haseltine Lake as our Partner Lead for China and the wider South East Asia region in April this year. He specialises in electronic patent matters with a particular expertise in mobile communications.

As our China lead, Daniel frequently makes the journey to Asia to meet with clients in China, Taiwan and the wider South East Asia.

We recently caught up with Daniel to see how his first 100 days at Haseltine Lake have been…

  • Why did you choose to work with Haseltine Lake

Haseltine Lake is a global firm with a strong European identity. The company is also very well known outside of Europe, working with a variety of clients in America alongside China and South East Asia. It was paramount that I could take on a role that allows me to develop my expertise in mobile communication systems and Haseltine Lake provides me with the opportunity to work with attorneys across Europe and China, focusing on patent practices and all aspects of Intellectual Property.

  • What have you learnt over the past 100 days at Haseltine Lake?

I’ve learnt an abundance of things over the last 100 days!  Having a wide variety of global clients means there was plenty to get up to speed with when I first joined. Haseltine Lake is proud to have longstanding relationships with many of its clients, some spanning nearly 100 years, and it’s fantastic to work for a company that takes such pride in going above and beyond for its clients all around the world.

  • What do you most enjoy about working at Haseltine Lake and why?

It’s great to be able to further develop my relationships with businesses in China and South East Asia. I also work with a superb team who are very supportive and enthusiastic. There are always new developments too, for example we are currently working with some new clients in Asia which is very exciting.

  • How often do you visit China?

I visit China around three to four times a year, along with the team. It is really critical for us to build credible relationships with our partners and deliver outstanding results for them. Face to face meetings are the best way to get things done. It also allows me to experience and understand the working culture and practices in China, which is something I enjoy as I also speak fluent Mandarin!

  • What are you looking forward to over the next 12 months?

Over the next twelve months, I am looking forward to helping drive business development activities further across South East Asia. Developing greater relationships with mobile communication clients is also something we shall endeavour to build on over the next year.
