Shedding the light on IP in China

21 November 2016

Last week we hosted an informal dinner with representatives from UK businesses with an interest or experience of protecting their IP in China.

We were delighted to welcome a select few professionals at Wong’s Chinese Restaurant in Bristol for the evening, to share their thoughts, experiences and concerns about entering and operating in the Chinese market. Some of our clients have experienced issues when operating in this market so the event provided an informal setting to offer expert advice and support from Haseltine Lake’s team of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.

China is a huge market, and with a population of 1.4 billion it has the busiest IP offices in the world, with the largest amount of patent applications every year since 2011. Operating in the Chinese market and protecting your business in China is critical for UK businesses. The Chinese IP system is improving all the time but still remains very different. Using our team’s expertise we were able to advise those sat round the table, answering their questions and using real life examples to assist their needs. It proves most beneficial to learn from other people’s experiences and this evening was the best method to welcome conversation amongst the guests.

At Haseltine Lake, we have extensive experience with China, many of our clients are based over there which enables us to keep up to speed with the ever-changing market and it is most important that we share this knowledge with our clients.

The rest of the Haseltine Lake’s experts included Lesley Evans (CEO), Jane More O’Ferrall (Partner), Alex Rogers (Partner) and Michael Conway (Associate) - who all have extensive experience in helping UK businesses secure IP protection in China.
