Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys granted a Royal Charter!

28 April 2016

The Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA) was granted a Royal Charter by Her Majesty The Queen at a meeting of the Privy Council held at Windsor Castle on 12th April. For those with an interest in historic practices, the Charter will come into legal effect after the Great Seal has been applied by the Crown Office.

This is a significant milestone for ITMA and will lead to it becoming the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and to its Registered Trade Mark Attorneys becoming Chartered Trade Mark Attorneys.

Established in 1934, ITMA has represented and educated generations of trade mark attorneys in the UK. The Royal Charter recognises the Institute’s solid record of achievement, and underlines the value of the trade mark attorney qualification in this increasingly complex area of the law.
