Haseltine Lake CEO calls for 100 organisations to sign up to newly launched IP Inclusive Charter

03 December 2015

Lesley Evans has shown her support for the official launch of IP Inclusive by calling for 100 organisations to sign its Charter, which was unveiled at an event held in London on Monday to over 60 intellectual property (IP) professionals. IP Inclusive is a pan-professional diversity task force committed to helping make the IP profession more inclusive.

The IP Inclusive initiative is the result of a round table meeting on Diversity in IP held at the beginning of the year. It has so far amassed over 40 members from organisations including CIPA, the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA), the IP Federation, the UK association of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI-UK), the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) and Managing IP magazine.

Lesley has been involved in the initiative from the outset and chairs the Best Practice workstream, which was responsible for the development and implementation of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter – of which Haseltine Lake was one of the first signatories. It is a voluntary code of practice and was established to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the IP sector. At the event, Lesley announced the ambitious goal of having 100 organisations from the IP community signed up to the IP Inclusive Charter by the end of January 2016.

Commenting on the launch of IP Inclusive, Lesley says, “It is great to be part of this initiative, right from the start. IP Professions are generally very open and welcoming, but they can be stronger and better still if they reach out and make themselves known to the widest possible workplace demographic. IP inclusive is giving us the tools and the impetus to do that.”

Working together, the IP Inclusive group and sub-group coordinators will work in four main areas – to raise awareness of IP professionals, to implement a best practice charter and accreditation scheme, to offer diversity training and to support the profession.
