Haseltine Lake's Benelux team celebrated its fifth year in The Hague with a networking event and presentation titled Intellectual Property (IP) Time Travel – perspectives on recent and future IP trends.

Hague event

The event, which was held on 12th February at the European Space Innovation Centre, on the European Space Agency campus at Noordwijk, The Netherlands, featured inspirational presentations from three leading speakers from the Benelux IP and technology transfer sector, reflecting on recent and emerging IP trends.

The key note speaker was Marc van der Burg from the Dutch Patent Office who reflected on how the established patent landscape may change following the introduction of the landmark unitary patent (UP) and unified patent court (UPC) regulations.

Other speakers were Xavier Dandoy, Head of IP at Besins Healthcare and Lluc Diaz, Technology Transfer Officer from the European Space Agency.

Dandoy,  continuing the theme of IP time travel, discussed the evolution of the Madrid System for international trademark registrations and the issues surrounding the new ‘Trademark Package’ proposed by the European Commission. He concluded with an overview of how IP and tax strategies are linked.

Lluc Diaz of the European Space Agency (ESA) explained the structures and processes that the ESA has put in place to help transfer and transition space technologies and data into our everyday lives.

Achim Krebs, Partner in The Hague, who heads up Haseltine Lake’s Benelux team says, “We wanted to celebrate five very successful years in The Hague while also looking to the future. This great line-up of speakers enabled us to explore some exciting IP trends and opportunities, and to appreciate the importance of IP and innovation throughout the Benelux region.

“Since 2010 Haseltine Lake has grown significantly and we are proud to have helped hundreds of businesses protect their IP across Europe. Our goals and ambitions for the next five years are focused on continuing the expansion from our Hague office with new attorney hires and an increased profile across Belgium and the Netherlands.”

Extending its anniversary celebrations further, Haseltine Lake will also be sponsoring the gala dinner drinks reception on the 15th April at the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) Annual Conference 2015 conference in Brussels, Belgium.
