Andrew joined Haseltine Lake in 2011 and qualified as a UK and
European Patent Attorney in 2015. Andrew is a Fellow of the
Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and a Member of the
Institute of Professional Representatives before the European
Patent Office. Having been brought up in Germany, he is fluent in
both English and German.
Andrew works with clients ranging from individual inventors to
multinational corporations. His core fields of expertise include
electronics, telecommunications and data processing. As part of
Andrew's telecommunications work, he has experience of evaluating
claims of patent applications relative to a particular
telecommunications standard and keeps up-to-date on matters
relating to standard-essential patents (SEPs). Andrew is
particularly experienced in the fields of data manipulation,
parallel-processing systems and microprocessors, automotive
electronics, biometrics and audio/video signal processing.
Andrew also has significant experience in other fields including
biomedical devices, materials analysis and processing, and the
automotive and railway industries. He maintains a keen interest in
the field of cryptography, which has been put to good use with the
rise in popularity of cryptocurrencies and blockchain
technology.

Andrew's work includes providing opinions regarding infringement
of IP rights, which involves carrying out detailed analysis of
potentially infringing products and giving strategic advice,
usually prior to commencement of negotiations with opposing
counsel. In the process, validity of existing rights will often be
assessed and an opinion given.
Andrew has a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of Leeds and maintains a keen interest in the field as
an Associate Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. As
part of his studies at Leeds University, Andrew gained significant
experience in CAE (computer-aided engineering) analysis of
automotive structures when working with the Leeds Formula
Student/Formula SAE team.
